OK- I must really be out of touch. I had never heard of oil pulling – an ancient practice where you swish oil around in your mouth for about 20 minutes.

It is supposed to not only give you whiter teeth and better oral health but also help you to detoxify – leading to better looking skin and more energy.

Yeah, sure.

If this doesn’t fall into the Give Me a Break category, I don’t know what does.

And big surprise – guess what kind of oil is at the top of the recommended list: coconut oil.

I first read an almost harrowing account of one person’s experience and then decided to google “Oil pulling”. There were over two million hits. Apparently Gwyneth Paltrow is behind the latest resurgence.

It really does sound ridiculous, doesn’t it – especially when you read the blow by blow accounts of how people have felt doing this. Just say the word “detoxification” and people scramble to try it!
